These anthems have been approached with the utmost sincerity by arranger Robert Curnow, the musicians in the Orchestra, the recording engineer, and myself. They are handled with true conviction of their value and offered with respect and reverence. Although played in a modern way, I believe each retains its own dignity and character. I feel this accounts for British audiences’ stunned but extremely enthusiastic reception to our version of their national anthem during our recent appearance in England.
Although the cliché holds true that it is a small world today, the music of the countries in this album is largely unknown to Americans. Perhaps, by translating this music into the Kenton Style, we are contributing to a better understanding between nations.
