“In the summer of 1954, I became the instrumental music director at Linden McKinley High in Columbus. In the late 1950s, I developed an outstanding dance band, but we had to change the name to a stage band because the Southern Baptists wouldn't accept the term ‘dance.’

“The Linden McKinley Stage Band was selected in 1961 to attend the Stan Kenton Stage Band Clinic at Michigan State University and again in 1962 to the same clinic at Indiana University. Our band was chosen to represent high school stage bands at the World’s Fair of Sound and Music in Chicago.

“I was then transferred to the new Northland High School for two years. I then went downtown to the Columbus Board of Education as Supervisor of Instrumental Music where I stayed until I retired.”
